When you say one year, two years, then it's sad. But fifteen years cannot be sad, because then it's a life. Lives do not have emotions in themselves, any more than dictionaries do; emotions define themselves only against fractions of a life, as held up against other fractions, and the smaller the fraction, the greater the potential for drama within it.
